Take your juices to the next level - add ons that actually make a difference
How to boost your morning juice with functional extras — without overcomplicating it
Fresh juice is already a powerhouse — it’s vibrant, living, and deeply nourishing. But sometimes, you want to take things a step further. Maybe your skin feels dull, your energy’s low, or you just love playing alchemist in the kitchen.
That’s where juice add-ons come in. Think of them as small, targeted upgrades that support specific needs — whether it’s detox, digestion, focus, or glow. And the best part? They don’t require complicated routines or expensive powders. Just a few smart additions to your daily ritual.
🌿 But first: a note on balance
Before we dive in: I’m not a fan of “overdosing” on superfoods or turning juice into a green pharmacy. Sometimes, less is more. Start simple. Listen to your body. Let the juice stay joyful.
The Best Juice Add-Ons — Sorted by Function
💛 For Glow & Skin Health
Because radiance starts from the inside.
Fresh turmeric (or powder) – anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, glow-boosting
Black pepper – sounds odd, but just a pinch activates turmeric's curcumin
Carotenoids – found in carrots, papaya, mango – made bioavailable with a little fat (see below)
Collagen powder (neutral, stir in after juicing) – for skin elasticity and joint health
✨ Pro tip: Add ½ tsp flaxseed oil or nut butter to help absorb fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K).
🌱 For Liver Detox & Hormone Balance
Especially powerful if you’ve recently made a shift (like quitting smoking, reducing alcohol or sugar, or coming off hormonal birth control).
Parsley – chlorophyll-rich and supports liver pathways
Milk thistle extract – classic liver support (just a few drops)
Dandelion greens – gently detoxifying, slightly bitter (start with small amounts)
Lemon + ginger – boosts digestion and bile flow
✨ Try: celery – parsley – apple – lemon – ginger – pineapple with a dash of milk thistle
💪 For Immune Support & Gut Health
Keep your system strong and resilient.
Aloe vera juice (inner leaf, unsweetened) – soothing for the gut
Raw honey – antimicrobial, soothing, and subtly sweet
Fermented ginger shot or apple cider vinegar – just a splash for digestive support
✨ Great in green juices or citrus-based blends
🧠 For Energy, Focus & Mood
Sometimes your juice needs to work like a gentle, green coffee.
Matcha – if you're not sensitive to caffeine, adds a focused energy
Chlorella or spirulina – high in iron, B12, and chlorophyll (acquired taste!)
✨ Stir in powders after juicing — they don’t go well through the press
🍃 For Absorption & Bioavailability
Because nutrients only matter if your body can actually use them.
A healthy fat (flax oil, olive oil, nut milk) – ½ tsp is enough
Lemon or lime juice – enhances iron absorption from greens
Pepper with turmeric – boosts curcumin by up to 2000% (!)
✨ Also: don’t drink your juice ice cold — room temperature is gentler on digestion.
✨ My Current Favorite Combo
Morning Detox Juice + Add-ons
Cucumber – celery – parsley – apple – lemon – ginger – pineapple
Add: ½ tsp flax oil or 1 table spoon of hemp seeds + turmeric + black pepper
Simple, bright, cleansing, and deeply supportive for the liver and hormones — especially helpful after quitting smoking (like I recently did) or if you feel sluggish.
Final Thought: Keep It Joyful
It’s easy to get caught in the “health perfectionism” loop. But juice should stay joyful — light, vibrant, and intuitive. You don’t need to add everything. Start with one or two things. See how you feel. Let it evolve naturally.
And if you’re using a Hurom juicer, you already have a head start — your juice is cold-pressed, nutrient-rich, and alive.
Because the goal isn’t just more.
The goal is better. Nourished. Balanced. Alive.
